Where is the jewellery made?

The ranges are designed and assembled in Gisborne, New Zealand from materials sourced worldwide and are hand-made locally.

What materials do you use?

Bird of Prey Jewellery champions sustainability and affordability by incorporating hand-craft techniques via local artisans, paired with ethically selected materials collected on travels abroad and from like-minded suppliers.

Gold-plated, sterling silver/alloys and gold-filled components ensure products are accessible, durable and less likely to irritate the skin. I use niobium earring hooks as an excellent irritation-free alternative to cheap alloys commonly used.

I now use Argentium Sterling Silver wire for ear wires, superior to conventional sterling silver in many ways that benefit you and preserve the environment. This alloy is nickel free, reducing the chance of irritation and the raw silver component is recycled (and that's traceable). Argentium’s excellent firestain resistance eliminates hazardous processes associated with removing it.

I also incorporate nickel-free brass and vintage components which may naturally age and patina over time.

How eco-friendly are your products and packaging?

Bird of Prey strive to use biodegradable packaging and reduce, re-use, and recycle whenever possible. Vintage components and recyclable materials are used where possible alongside ethically sourced or man-made gemstones, vintage beads and items hand-made from raw, natural materials.

Bird of Prey Jewellery passionately believe in supporting small, local business partners and purchasing organic and earth-friendly products for a healthy, sustainable eco-system. Our website platform is based in and operated within New Zealand.

Orders in New Zealand are couriered or posted in paper wrapped boxes, not plastic, however some recycled packaging may be used.

Do you repair damaged items of jewellery?

Yes Bird of Prey will repair faulty Bird of Prey Jewellery items, within one month of purchase, free of charge.

If a piece breaks within a year (during normal wear) I will happily repair it free of charge. After this period I will charge a small repair fee and for any postage. Please email amanda@birdofprey.co.nz to arrange this.

Please return pre-paid and insured via a traceable method with the piece securely wrapped, including your return address, contact information and request for repair. Refer to the Returns and Exchanges policy regarding shipping.

How do I redeem my 10% off offer as a Bird Club email list member?

Bird of Prey offer a 10% discount on your first purchase from the website as a new club member. This applies to one order per customer, of one or more items, excluding sale items.

This offer cannot be combined with any other promotional offer. Once the order has been placed I cannot go in and refund the 10%. The code provided to you by email must be used at the checkout. Enter your details into the Join the Bird-Club page and you will receive your discount code via email.

What's the best way to care for my jewellery?

Normal oxidation from air will occur on natural products. This can be minimised by storing in a dry location, preferably in a cloth bag or jewellery box, and separately from other jewellery to prevent scratching.

Store away from heat sources, direct sunlight or in vehicles. Protect jewellery from moisture and don't wear jewellery while bathing, showering or swimming

Body products, make-up and hair spray can contain chemicals which may damage your jewellery so it is best to apply them before adding accessories to minimise damage.

Avoid hard knocks, heavy pressure and take care not to bend jewellery.

Clean with a soft cloth, or silver cleaning cloth for sterling silver items. Do not submerge in water.

You can safely clean your cubic zirconia jewellery with a gentle detergent. Be sure to rinse thoroughly to avoid leaving a residue that would dull the gem's shine.

Do you gift wrap?

Every item ordered is gift wrapped individually in tissue and boxed, together with other items if there is more than one, wherever possible to minimise waste.

Please inform me if you wish to receive your order in separate boxes. A hand written gift card is available if you specify a gift message when you check out.
